ArmInfo. The Department for Investigation of Crimes on Torture of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Armenia has reported the termination of the criminal case against police officers who used force against forcibly displaced Artsakh resident Ara Ohanyan. Lawyer Roman Yeritsyan shared this information on his Facebook page.
Yeritsyan explained that the investigation was terminated due to a lack of sufficient evidence. The lawyer pointed out that there were medical documents confirming that Ohanyan was tortured. Additionally, there were video recordings, testimonies from the victim, witnesses who provided him with first aid, and others who were present at the scene when he was being pursued by the police.
In this regard, Yeritsyan noted that the Investigative Committee of Armenia and the Prosecutor's Office only cite insufficient evidence exclusively in cases involving torture or abuse of power by officials. In these instances, criminal proceedings are initiated, lasting 2-3 months with a very passive preliminary investigation. Petitions for procedural and investigative actions are often rejected, and ultimately the case is completed in a standard manner.
