ArmInfo. Our compatriots in the Baku prison demonstrated by their actions that the Armenian freedom-loving spirit can be confined, but never defeated, as stated by Eduard Sharmazanov, the former vice-speaker of the Armenian parliament and Secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), at a press conference in Yerevan.
The politician pointed out that the published message of former Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan serves as a vivid example of his bravery and commitment to his life's goal. He also recalled Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan words that no court can challenge the Armenian people and Nagorno-Karabakh's right to self-determination.
"With the same pride, I read the statement of General Levon Mnatsakanyan, who confirmed his participation in the liberation struggle of Artsakh at the trial. All of these people who are currently in Azerbaijani captivity should be regarded as our heroes, and the future generation should be raised with their selflessness as an example, rather than following the path of capitulators who are transforming Armenia into a Turkish vilayet," Sharmazanov emphasized.
Regarding thee Armenian government's claims that their efforts to free Armenian prisoners are simply invisible, the former vice speaker of parliament agreed that the Armenian authorities are indeed taking actions, but negative ones, which, combined with their inaction, has resulted in Armenian prisoners of war being transferred to Baku. At the same time, Sharmazanov expressed his conviction that the reunification of the Armenian people should take place around a common idea, and not around individuals. "Our people have never rallied around a single person; this has constantly occurred and should continue to occur in the pursue of a certain idea," the former vice-speaker of the Armenian parliament concluded.
