ArmInfo. The National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (NAS RA) hosted a presentation of the book by historian and orientalist, candidate of historical sciences Anush Harutyunyan entitled "Formation of the State of Azerbaijan and the Problem of Ethnogenesis of Azerbaijanis".
As ArmInfo was informed by the press service of the NAS RA, this material is the first work in Armenian scientific circles dedicated to the formation of the state of Azerbaijan. The book has significant practical significance both for the study of individual episodes in the history of the country and for countering falsifications on the part of Azerbaijan. The academy explained that it covers the key stages of the formation of the Azerbaijani ethnic group in the recent past.
The monograph is based on the candidate's dissertation of Anush Harutyunyan, as well as the work of the scientific director and editor of the book, Doctor of Historical Sciences Aleksan Hakobyan, head of the Department of the Christian East of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the NAS RA. During his speech at the presentation, Hakobyan noted that the book demonstrates to Azerbaijanis on a scientific level "who is who and what is what in the context of historical events." "Source accuracy is very important to me, and here I see that this accuracy has been observed. The tasks set were successfully solved, and I hope that these studies will be continued," Hakobyan noted.
In turn, the author of the monograph Anush Harutyunyan emphasized that the study of the origin of the Azerbaijani statehood and the formation of the Azerbaijani ethnic group is of particular importance, since Azerbaijan is trying to create its own history by appropriating the historical and cultural heritage of the Armenian people and neighboring countries.
"The monograph examines two key issues: the historical and political circumstances of the creation of a state called "Azerbaijan" on the territory of the Eastern Caucasus and the processes of assigning the name "Azerbaijani" to the titular people within this state," the author presented
As reported by the NAS RA, the book includes several hundred archival documents from 50 archival funds, collections of documents, memoirs and testimonies of contemporaries, as well as multilingual literature in Russian, English, Turkish and Azerbaijani. The documentary basis of the work is made up of materials from the National Archives of Armenia, the State Archives of Russia and the Russian State Archive of Socio-Political History, concerning the issues under study. The book was published with the support of the Geghard Scientific and Analytical Foundation.
