ArmInfo. Any work should be assessed by results, and in the case of Armenian prisoners of war who continue to be tortured in Baku, the lack of effective action by the Armenian government is becoming obvious. This was stated by the leader of the opposition faction With Honor Hayk Mamijanyan during a briefing in the Armenian parliament.
In this vein, Mamijanyan asked a rather rhetorical question: if it is not the Prime Minister of Armenia who should demand their release, then who should do it?
"They can return our prisoners as they wish. We are using all means: from international relations to protests. Therefore, I repeat - everything is assessed by results," the oppositionist said.
In this regard, the Republican recalled that this morning, on February 6, the lawyer for the family of former Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan published a statement in which he noted his 20 years of experience in such cases. The leader of the "I have the honor" faction recalled that the lawyer expressed surprise in his statement that he was encountering such inaction on the part of the authorities of any country for the first time. Mamijanyan emphasized that this opinion is confirmed by the fact that the current Armenian government is criticized not only by representatives of the opposition, but also by the international expert community.
The oppositionist expressed his conviction that Ruben Vardanyan was forced to go on a hunger strike precisely because of the inaction of the Armenian authorities, adding that everything possible must be done to return the Armenian captives to their homeland. "From a humanitarian point of view and given Ruben Vardanyan's condition, it is necessary for him to stop the hunger strike and return alive from the Baku prison. I do not know whether the call to stop the hunger strike will reach him or not, but it will be better this way," Mamijanyan noted.
He also drew attention to the manipulation previously used by the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan, who cited the initial number of captives and those currently on trial in Baku. Mamijanyan emphasized that the importance of human life cannot be reduced to statistics. In this regard, he recalled how the Armenian Prime Minister spoke about the approximate number of those killed after the 44-day war in the context of "plus or minus one", noting that this is an indicator of the current government's attitude to human lives.
In conclusion, the faction leader emphasized that the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) adheres to one ideology: an independent and strong Motherland - Armenia and an independent and secure Artsakh. "For this, we will do everything that is required of us. And whoever helps us in this process or, on the contrary, hinders us - they will be judged by history," the oppositionist summed up.
The current and former military-political leadership of Artsakh was taken hostage after the Azerbaijani aggression against the NKR on September 19-20, 2023. For the second year in a row, in the conditions of inaction of the international community, dozens of Armenian citizens are illegally detained in Azerbaijan, subjected to cruel and degrading treatment, torture.
