ArmInfo. The Armenian government is trying to normalize relations with Russia on one hand, while on the other hand they are calling Russia a criminal. Edmon Marukyan, the chairman of the Enlightened Armenia party and former adviser to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, wrote this.
The politician recalled that the Speaker of the Armenian parliament, Alen Simonyan, had invited the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian parliament, Valentina Matviyenko, to Yerevan, and the latter accepted the invitation. Marukyan noted that the Speaker of the parliament of any state cannot make an official visit to any country without an invitation. "And when the official statement about the visit was published, the Prime Minister's media outlet interviewed an expert who initially suggested that giving new impetus to Armenian-Russian relations meant giving new impetus to the crimes committed against the Armenian people, in which Russia took part. And then the same expert later noted: "November 9 (2020 - ed.) is the capitulation of Armenia." In other words, the pro-government expert echoed the "capitulatory" formulation used by the third President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, a sentiment that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has repeatedly opposed. Thus, the government is trying to normalize relations with Russia with one hand, and on the other hand calls Russia a criminal," the politician noted.
In this vein, he questioned the motives behind such a policy by the authorities and how long the people will have to endure the consequences "Do you want to normalize relations and have interdepartmental contacts? Then do it normally, without "underhanded games". And if you don't want to, you consider them criminals, then why are you inviting them? These visits, departures won't help, there is a crisis in relations anyway. And the most absurd thing is, since when was it decided that the Armenian parliament can call a document signed by the prime minister a capitulation, as Aliyev said in Munich? "Maybe something has changed...", Marukyan concluded. Previously, it was announced that preparations were made for Valentina Matviyenko's visit to Armenia. But, so far, no specific dates have been named.
