ArmInfo. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan maintains his position solely through lies. This was written on her Facebook page by Taguhi Tovmasyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition faction With Honor.
She recalled that today is March 1. "This is not only the first day of spring, in my memory it is primarily associated with the bloody events of 2008, when 10 people were killed in the center of Yerevan," the deputy noted.
She emphasized that Nikol Pashinyan came to power with promises to publicize the events of "March 1", but he has not done so yet. Instead of fulfilling his promise, a memorial monument was erected in front of the city hall to commemorate this event.
"Nikol Pashinyan has been in power in Armenia for about 7 years and none of these 10 murders have been solved so far. The latest information on this matter is that an investigation is underway. An investigation... And thus, step by step, not fulfilling his promises, he maintains power based on lies," Taguhi Tovmasyan emphasized.
On March 1, 2008, after the regular presidential elections held on February 19, which were won by Serzh Sargsyan, riots broke out in Yerevan, resulting in clashes with law enforcement officials. The Armenian opposition, led by the first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who also ran in the elections, held rallies in the center of Yerevan from February 20, expressing dissatisfaction with the voting results. The protests resulted in riots and clashes between protesters and law enforcement officials on March 1-2, resulting in 10 deaths, including police officers, and over 200 injuries of varying severity.
On August 17, 2018, Nikol Pashinyan announced that the case of the events of March 1-2, 2008 in Yerevan had been fully resolved. "I will repeat once again and say this with full responsibility: there is no option for any of the criminals, their leaders, to escape responsibility. There is no such option," he emphasized.
We note, however, that to this day none of the responsible persons have been punished accordingly for that crime.
