ArmInfo. The rumors that Vardan Ghukasyan was detained by American law enforcement officers are not true. This is stated in a statement by Vardan Ghukasyan's Democracy, Law, Discipline party, in connection with the reports in the Armenian segment of social networks that Ghukasyan was detained by American law enforcement officers at the request of the Armenian side.
The party noted that the person who reported the use of violence against Ghukasyan as a participant in the incident subsequently refuted these statements.
"The party has always acted according to the principle of transparency and sought to present the public with a real picture of the situation. We were given information that Vardan Ghukasyan's health was fine and he was recovering. However, when we tried to get more detailed information, it turned out that the information provided was incomplete," the party's statement says.
It is noted that on the night of February 20-21, the party chairperson Anush Khudaverdyan contacted Vardan Ghukasyan, but soon the connection between them was broken. During subsequent attempts to obtain information, it became known that Ghukasyan could not speak, as he needed peace.
"This circumstance has caused some concern among the public, especially considering that the information received did not reflect reality. We previously reported that Vardan Ghukasyan would be home for two to three days, but at the moment it has been confirmed that he is under medical supervision, while he does not have the status of a detainee. We continue to stay in touch with all relevant parties to find out more detailed information," the party said, calling for an official statement on the situation to be made.
Earlier, information was circulated in the media that Vardan Ghukasyan was allegedly detained by the American police at the request of Armenian law enforcement agencies.
The Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs did not comment on these reports. At the end of last week, reports emerged that Vardan Ghukasyan, who lives in the United States, was hospitalized in serious condition with heart problems.
According to polls conducted by the Armenian representative office of Gallup International, Vardan Ghukasyan's DOK party is second only to the current Armenian Prime Minister's political force, Civil Contract, in terms of popularity among citizens.
