ArmInfo. Azerbaijan is trying to retrospectively rewrite the history of Armenia and the culture of Nagorno-Karabakh, as stated by Konstantin Zatulin, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, during a round table in Moscow organized by the Lazarevsky Club.
Zatulin noted that Baku wants to appropriate famous historical monuments: Amaras, Gandzasar and others. "These and other historical and cultural monuments in Nagorno-Karabakh date back to a time when Azerbaijanis were not present in this territory and did not exist as a nation at all," he said. The Russian parliamentarian also brought up the trial of former leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh. "This 'trial also fits into the general logic of falsifying history and appropriating Armenian heritage. Its occurrence is a showy celebration of the Azerbaijani authorities' triumph over the Armenians," Zatulin stated.
