ArmInfo.Armenia counts on the active support of the European Union in the issue of the release of Armenian prisoners of war held in Azerbaijan. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia Paruyr Hovhannisyan on February 25 during the fourth meeting of the Armenia-EU Parliamentary Interaction Committee.
"Our prisoners continue to be held in Azerbaijan. What is happening there is shameful for Azerbaijan from any point of view, both legal and judicial. We are grateful to all our international partners for supporting peacebuilding efforts. We are also grateful to our partners from the EU, but its mediation efforts are not yielding results today. We expect that the new EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas will take a more active part in this process," the official emphasized.
He noted that Kallas' upcoming visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan in the near future and her participation in this process could contribute to the establishment of peace in the region.
The Deputy Minister also reported that Armenia presented Azerbaijan with the latest version of the peace treaty, in which only two points remained uncoordinated. Currently, the process of delimitation of borders between the two states is also underway, which continues to be one of the most sensitive issues. Hovhannisyan expressed hope for positive dynamics in this matter. The bellicose statements and threats coming from Baku do not correspond to the peace agenda.
