ArmInfo. As predicted, due to a powerful cyclone on the night of February 20-21, heavy snowfall was observed throughout Armenia, in some places very heavy. A blizzard and poor horizontal visibility were also observed. There is black ice on the roads of the republic.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Environment (MEE), in Shirak region the snow depth reached 22-40 cm, in Gegharkunik region - 15-40 cm, in Lori region - 30-36 cm, in Tavush region - 30-45 cm.
In the flat areas of Aragatsotn region the snow depth was 50-70 cm, and in the highland areas - 60-120 cm. In the mountainous areas of Kotayk region this figure was at the level of 40-70 cm, and in the foothills - 10- 15 cm. In Armavir and Ararat regions the snow depth reached 15-20 cm, in the mountainous areas of Vayots Dzor region - 40-60 cm, and in the foothills of the region - 8-10 cm. In the valleys of Syunik region the snow depth was 1-4 cm, in the foothills of Syunik - 4-6 cm.
In Yerevan, the snow cover reached 15-18 cm. In some areas of the city, the amount of precipitation was equal to the monthly norm.
The last time such a powerful cyclonic circulation was observed on the territory of the republic was on January 1-2, 2016, when the snow cover in Yerevan reached 40-50 cm, after which similar cyclones were not observed.
