ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan faces a real threat of losing geopolitical allies, especially in the United States. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), political prisoner Armen Ashotyan in connection with Pashinyan's recent visit to America.
Ashotyan drew attention to the fact that the speech of US Vice President James Vance did not bring anything new. He explained that Vance only repeated the same thoughts that have been voiced for several years, especially in the context of Armenian realities. "He pointed out the cynicism and undemocratic nature of Nikol Pashinyan's regime. He said this in the context of the whole world. But this means that Pashinyan has every chance of losing the support of his geopolitical partners, especially in America," the RPA Deputy Chairman explained.
At the same time, he called for waiting for further statements from the US deep state to understand how they will affect dissent in Armenia and whether they will continue to strengthen its suppression. "Thus, we will be able to assess to what extent Vance's words will become reality, at least in Armenia," the RPA deputy chairman concluded.
Nikol Pashinyan was in the United States on a working visit, where he took part in the fifth International Religious Freedom Summit and the National Prayer Breakfast. During his stay, the Armenian Prime Minister also met with US Vice President James Vance at the White House in Washington. During his speech at the Munich Security Conference, Vance emphasized that one cannot simply talk about democratic values, but rather live them. "Within the memory of many of you in this room, the Cold War pitted the defenders of democracy against far more tyrannical forces on this continent. And think about whose side in that fight was censorship, the closing of churches, the cancellation of elections. Unfortunately, when I look at Europe today, it is sometimes not very clear what happened to some of the winners of the Cold War. What no democracy, not American, not German, not European, can survive is telling millions of voters that their thoughts and concerns, their aspirations, their pleas for help are invalid or unworthy of even consideration. Democracy is based on the sacred principle that the voice of the people matters. There is no place for firewalls (control system - ed.). You either support that principle or you don't," said the US Vice President, as quoted by Meduza.
