ArmInfo. The "determination" of the Armenian authorities to convince their fellow citizens to join the European Union and lead them on the path to a "bright future" does not meet with any reaction from competent EU officials. This was written in an article on social networks by Tigran Abrahamyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition faction With Honor.
He noted that within the framework of the Munich Security Conference he followed the panel discussion on EU enlargement, which was attended by the prime ministers of Albania, North Macedonia and the EU Commissioner for Enlargement. "Sensible and sober people, of course, will not be surprised, but nevertheless, I must say that during that 1-1.5 hour discussion, nothing was said about Armenia and the beginning of the so-called EU membership process. Not to mention the fact that RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, as a pioneer of EU membership, was not among the speakers. Instead, a heated discussion broke out about the possible EU membership of the Western Balkan countries - Albania, Montenegro, Serbia, as well as Moldova and Ukraine. In the context of the recent escalation of relations between the EU and Georgia, even Georgia was mentioned, but there was not a word or hint about Armenia. It was not even officially welcomed. Isn't it strange that in the context of discussing the future of the EU, expansion prospects or even ideas, there is not a single mention of a country whose ruling party in parliament is adopting a draft law on the republic's accession to the EU, based on empty promises and bluff?" the politician asks.
All this, according to him, once again proves that Armenia continues to follow the path of adventurism in its foreign policy. "Yerevan is not moving towards the EU, but towards Ankara and breaking off relations with all the main centers of power," the deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia believes.
On February 11, the Armenian parliament adopted in the first reading a bill on the beginning of the process of the country's accession to the European Union. 63 deputies of the National Assembly voted for the adoption of the document, 7 voted against, and 0 abstained. The bill was passed by the votes of the ruling Civil Contract faction. Opposition deputies did not take part in the voting.
