ArmInfo. The Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) has responded to statements made by the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan that "if the people of Artsakh truly wanted a homeland, they should have fought for it."
In its statement, the Artsakh Diocese emphasized that such short-sighted and arrogant statements not only fail to contribute to solving the urgent issues, but instead deepen the division that have been artificially imposed on society. "The people who know the reality best and have officially refused to help Artsakh are once again distorting the reality, "sprinkling salt" on the unhealed wounds of the Artsakh people who have lost their homeland. They ignore the sacrifice of the hundreds of our young soldiers who lost their lives in 2023. It is sad to hear such irresponsible statements coming from a person in such a highly responsible position as the Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia," the Artsakh Diocese said in a statement.
In this regard, it is noted that after a 44-day war, nine months of blockade and forced displacement of the Artsakh people, the Armenian society has developed an approach of abdicating responsibility. This approach is based on similar statements made at a high level. "The recent statement by the Chairman of the National Assembly only confirmed this approach. People with spiritual perception understand the reasons for such behavior well. The greatest sin of the first people was not only eating the forbidden fruit, but also shifting responsibility to others. This phenomenon has been present throughout the history of mankind, and it can only be overcome through Christianity, which teaches us to see our mistakes and take responsibility for our actions," the statement says.
In this regard, the Artsakh Diocese emphasized that there is no need to recall the heroic resistance of the Artsakh people, who endured the hardships of the nine-month blockade and displayed courage on September 19, 2023. "According to the biblical words: "whoever has eyes to see, will see." But those who refuse to see reality will never have the opportunity to comprehend it. We pray that God will grant our people wisdom, so that nothing and no one will be the cause of artificial tension and intolerance towards each other. The stronger the love, forgiveness and unity in our homeland, the sooner all our cherished dreams will come true - dreams that we are confident are shared by every Armenian," the Diocese concluded.
