ArmInfo. Former Commander of the Artsakh Defense Army Jalal Harutyunyan, who was accused of official negligence during the 44-day war, has been sentenced to six years in prison. The corresponding decision was made by the court during a session on February 6.
After the verdict was announced, Harutyunyan's lawyer Arsen Sardaryan recalled in a conversation with journalists that the trial against his client lasted two and a half years. The lawyer also pointed out the pressure on the Court from the victims. In his opinion, this pressure affected the objectivity of the proceedings. The lawyer noted that the judge did not pay due attention to the facts and evidence presented by the defense, which led to the guilty verdict.
At the same time, Sardaryan noted that Harutyunyan's health condition does not allow him to be in custody. He mentioned that during the war, he was seriously wounded and forced to leave his post. He explained that Jalal's illnesses correspond to the list of medical indications for which a person cannot be imprisoned. Sardaryan assured that there is no convincing evidence in the case, aside from for the testimony of one person.
