ArmInfo. The fascist regime of Azerbaijan continues to destroy historical and architectural monuments, settlements and residential areas in the temporarily occupied territories of Artsakh. This is stated in the publication of the Ombudsman of the Cultural Heritage of the Armenian Highlands on her Facebook account.
According to the source, the Artsakh village of Mariamadzor, located in the Hadrut region, has become the new target of Azerbaijan's aggressive policy. "All these facts once again confirm that the entire heritage of universal value in the territory of Artsakh is under threat of complete destruction and appropriation, which is also a manifestation of genocide," the statement of the Ombudsman of the Cultural Heritage says.
The statement also recalls that a similar policy of Azerbaijan at the state level two decades ago led to the unpunished destruction of thousand-year-old khachkars in Old Jugha in Nakhichevan.
"It is not surprising that similar actions will take place in occupied Artsakh, where Azerbaijan enjoys complete freedom of action," the statement continues.
At the same time, it is noted that acts of vandalism against Armenian cultural heritage in Artsakh are recorded by international scientific centers, which will create important documentary grounds for presenting Azerbaijan before the International Court as a state that committed genocide and terrorism. Back in the summer of 2024, the Caucasus Heritage Watch (CHW) organization in its 7th report on the situation around Artsakh signaled a 75% increase in cases of destruction of Armenian heritage in the occupied territories of the NKR by Azerbaijan, and a 29% increase in the number of objects classified as under threat.
