Zakharova comments on statements by Aliyev and Azerbaijani media,  which included territorial claims against Armenia

ArmInfo.On February 6, at a briefing, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry  Maria Zakharova addressed a question from an Armenian journalist regarding publications in Azerbaijani media and statements made by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, containing territorial claims against the historical Armenian region of Syunik.

<We have considered, are considering and have written this in all  documents. We have also declared it orally during public events and  in our contacts with our partners, friends, and colleagues in both  Baku and Yerevan.  Our position is that the media, with  freedom of  action and absence of censorship as a postulate, as the norm in our  capitals,  should act responsibly. Given the pain and grief that the  peoples of this region have already experienced, the media should  work in favor of a peaceful settlement and strive to stabilize the  situation, rather than destabilize it. I understand perfectly well,  and  Russian media are sometimes criticized for presenting their own  point of view or the perspective of experts that may not be shared by  this or that country or society. We always urge our media to approach  sensitive issues with responsibility, especially those that have the  potential to escalate conflicts, and this is not just a political  dimension, but also people's lives. And in the situation  you  mentioned, I want to reiterate our stance and our plea,> Maria  Zakharova stated.
