ArmInfo. Armenia will tighten responsibility for evading military exercises, and will clarify the role of the military police in the mobilization process. The draft amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia have been published on the website of legal acts e-draft.am.
The adoption of amendments to the current legislation will tighten legislative norms, increase accountability and ensure the full implementation of the conscription process. The forms of evasion of training have been clarified: failure to appear at the military commissariat at the place of registration, evasion of a medical examination, evasion with causing bodily harm or simulating illness, forgery of documents and other forms of deception. In case of evasion of participation in the training camp, a fine, short-term imprisonment (up to 2 months) or imprisonment (up to 2 years) is envisaged. If evasion of participation in the training camp was committed by causing bodily harm, feigning illness or forging documents, the punishment may be from 2 to 5 years of imprisonment. These changes will make it possible to tighten responsibility and reduce cases of evasion of military training camps.
The draft proposes expanding the involvement of the military police in the conscription process, to ensure effective control over the organization of conscription and training camps. It is expected that these changes will enhance the efficiency of the conscription system by reducing the number of citizens evading it, and also tighten sanctions, compelling a significant portion of evaders to reconsider their approach. The participation of the military police in this process will strengthen control and promote adherence to the law.
