ArmInfo. An average of 15,000 cases of chickenpox have been recorded annually in Armenia over the past 15 years. This was reported by Zaruhi Grigoryan, Deputy Director General of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, during a press conference on February 3 dedicated to the launch of vaccination against chickenpox in Armenia.
In this vein, she mentioned that the vaccination process has started in Armenia, announcing that at the first stage, only children over 12 months old, born after November 1, 2023, that is one- year- old children, will be eligible for the vaccine. "Starting from 2027, the vaccine will be extended to children aged 4 to 6 years, followed by conscripts," Grigoryan noted. The Deputy Director General of the Center emphasized that the primary goal of this initiative is to reduce disease prevalence and improve disease outcomes. This, in turn, will positively impact the population's health, productivity and overall quality of life. She also reassured that all imported vaccines undergo thorough testing before being used.
