ArmInfo. The fifth Armenian Oncology Congress is taking place in Armenia, which has brought together leading specialists from various countries, including the United States, Russia, China and Georgia. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health (MoH) of Armenia.
According to the report, the head of the Ministry of Health of Armenia Anahit Avanesyan in her speech touched upon the problems that citizens face in cancer treatment. She drew attention to the financial difficulties that arise during treatment, noting that the department strives to make medical services and technologies more accessible.
"Our strategy is to ensure that services and technologies that are physically available are also financially accessible to all our citizens. To resolve this issue, it is important to consistently move along the path of a comprehensive reform of the insurance system," Avanesyan emphasized.
The Minister also touched upon the ongoing reforms and future plans, noting that this year the range of oncological services in the country has significantly expanded. In particular, the entire range of radiation diagnostic and treatment methods is now available. In addition, screening programs are being expanded and new guidelines are being developed, which should form the basis for further work.
"In the near future, we will focus on the optimal use and development of digital tools, as well as the implementation of advanced innovative solutions," Avanesyan added.
According to the department, this event, which is of interest to the medical community, is being certified as part of continuous professional development (CPD).
During the IV Oncology Congress in 2024, the Minister assured that over the past 3-4 years, mortality caused by oncology has decreased in Armenia. According to Avanesyan, this result was achieved thanks to screening for the early detection of malignant neoplasms, targeted therapy programs, increased access to services, expansion and re-equipment of infrastructure. As the head of the Ministry of Health explained at the time, this allowed to increase the number of newly detected cases, and, accordingly, to reduce the fatal outcomes.
At the same time, there are no statistics on the number of oncological diseases in the country.
