ArmInfo.In Saudi Arabia, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia Narek Mkrtchyan discussed with Dr. Mehmood Khan, CEO, The Hevolution Foundation, the possibilities of cooperation and support for research programs initiated by the newly established Demographic Research Center of Yerevan State University (YSU).
As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Social Labor of Armenia, The Hevolution Foundation actively finances research and innovative projects in the field of healthy aging, contributing to the increase in life expectancy. In this regard, Dr. Khan emphasized the importance of Armenia's participation in the Global Healthspan 2025 World Summit, which brings together scientists, investors and experts to discuss new ideas, technologies and investment opportunities in the field of healthy aging.
In addition, during the meeting, an agreement was reached on joint work on a strategy for improving the demographic situation in Armenia for 2024-2040. Particular attention in this strategy will be paid to stimulating the activity of older people in public life and preventing premature mortality.
According to the RA Statistical Committee, in January-November 2024, an annual decline in the birth rate of 7.8% was registered in Armenia (30,916 children were born), against the backdrop of an increase in mortality by 5.4% (23,391 people died). Thus, the absolute value of the natural population growth was 7,525 people, which is 33.5% lower than the figure a year ago. In particular, the natural population growth rate for January-November 2024 was 2.7 per mille, compared to 4.2 per mille a year ago.
