ArmInfo. The UK government's call to its citizens does not include tighter travel restrictions for visits to Armenia. This was stated by RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during the government hour in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on January 22, in response to a question from Artur Khachatryan, a member of the National Assembly from the opposition faction "Armenia".
The deputy raised the issue of the joint statement by the border delimitation commissions issued on January 16 of this year, outlining the upcoming work. Just 24 hours later, the UK government urged its citizens to stay away from the 5-kilometer border zone and avoid driving on the Noyemberyan-Ijevan highway due to safety concerns in these areas.
Despite Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's assurances that the Kirants village area is safe, British scientists and intelligence suggest otherwise, Khachatryan noted. He mentioned that last October, the Armenian side proposed specific directions for border delimitation to Azerbaijan. In this regard, he inquired about the specific directions being discussed. In response, the head of the RA Foreign Ministry called for a detailed study of the UK government's recommendations to its citizens. "In reality, the situation is quite the opposite, there has been a softening of these recommendations concerning Armenia. Emotions and passions on this issue have absolutely nothing to do with reality, as the current document doesn't mention the threat of terrorism, unlike previous recommendations. Of course, the Armenian authorities are free to agree or disagree with these recommendations." Regarding the process of border delimitation, as the minister emphasized, this issue will also be addressed in due time.
