ArmInfo. Alexander Sirunyan, who was nominated by the ruling Civil Contract faction in Armenia for the post of member of the Supreme Judicial Council, withdrew his candidacy. This was announced on January 22 from the rostrum of the RA National Assembly by the leader of the faction Hayk Konjoryan.
According to him, Sirunyan justified his refusal to be nominated by the statement of the Corruption Prevention Commission, which indicated that the candidate had property problems related to the 2-hectare land plot he had purchased for only 300 thousand drams, which was also announced during the plenary session of the National Assembly. "We note the importance of the commission's conclusion on the candidate's image, but the vote on the candidate, in accordance with the current legislation, must take place. The faction will not participate in this vote," Konjoryan said.
In a conversation with journalists, the head of the faction emphasized that the faction will discuss the new candidate for membership in the Supreme Judicial Council later.
A closed vote on the candidacy of lawyer Alexander Sirunyan, who is known for his scandalous statements against all opponents of the current government, was planned for today.
