ArmInfo. National Assembly member from the opposition faction "Armenia" Artur Khachatryan commented on the recommendations of the British government to refrain from traveling to the east of Armenia.
The deputy recalled that information was circulated online the night before that the British government strongly recommended its citizens to refrain from traveling within 5 km of the eastern border of Armenia- Azerbaijan, as well as to avoid using the interstate road Noyemberyan-Ijevan - M16/H26.
In this regard, Khachatryan complained that, apparently, British scientists are not aware that the so-called "era of peace" proclaimed by the RA authorities has arrived in Armenia.
"Neither British scientists nor researchers know that an era of peace has been declared in Armenia and that the safest place in the world is the iron fence in the village of Kirants (Tavush region of Armenia - ed.), and they advise not to visit this area and not to drive on this road," the opposition MP wrote, commenting on the statement of the British government.
In early November 2021, even before the start of any border delimitation and demarcation process, the RA government announced that 21 km of the Goris-Kapan interstate road had come under the control of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. And in the spring of 2024, the Armenian authorities announced the start of border delimitation with Azerbaijan from the Tavush direction. These statements caused mass protests in the country. However, despite this, the Armenian authorities unilaterally transferred 54 real estate objects (2 houses and land plots) belonging to 30 individuals to the Azerbaijani side in the village of Kirants in the Tavush region. Meanwhile, according to the Cadastre Committee, these territories belonged to the Republic of Armenia and the villagers had all the necessary cadastral certificates from the Soviet era. Independent experts called these actions of the Armenian government unilateral concessions to Baku that have no legal basis.
