ArmInfo.Moscow is puzzled by the Armenian side's response to the remarks made by TV presenter Dmitry Kiselev on the Weekly News" program broadcasted on January 12, 2025, on the air of the "on the All-Russian State Television Channel of the Russian Federation.
Thus, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova commented on the reaction of the Armenian side to Kiselev's statements. "To be honest, this reaction is puzzling, since we are talking about the statements of a journalist. We have always heard from Yerevan that Armenia is committed to freedom of speech. Moreover, the current Armenian leadership has made this its imperative," the diplomat said on January 16 at a weekly briefing.
According to her, Russia's official position on this issue is well known to Yerevan. She proposed to reread the 9th point of the tripartite agreement, which states: "All economic and transport links in the region will be unblocked. The Republic of Armenia guarantees the security of transport links between the western regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic to organize the unimpeded movement of citizens, vehicles and goods in both directions. Control over transport links is carried out by the Border Service of the FSB of Russia. By agreement of the Parties, the construction of new transport links connecting the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic with the western regions of Azerbaijan will be ensured."
She emphasized that this is the logic underlying the activity of the tripartite working group co-chaired by the Deputy Prime Ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia. The diplomat reiterated that the group had achieved significant practical results and had come close to organizing railway communication between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Additionally, the diplomat stated that Moscow is confident that the earliest possible resumption of the group's work will not help restore the transport network of the South Caucasus promptly, but also ensure the further socio-economic development of the entire region. In conclusion, Zakharova once again reaffirmed Moscow's willingness to assist Yerevan and Baku in resolving this issue.
