ArmInfo. The Center for Truth and Justice (CFTJ) has formally requested Azerbaijan to grant visas for a team of international lawyers to observe the upcoming trials of eight Armenian prisoners.
As CFTJ stated in a Twitter post (X), set to begin on January 17, 2025, these trials will take place behind closed doors in Baku and involve leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh, who have face fabricated charges and prolonged detention without proper legal representation or family contact.
"CFTJ President Gor Mnastakayan emphasizes the urgency for international trial monitors to ensure transparency and adherence to fair trial standards," the statement reads. It is also noted that international monitors awaiting visas from Azerbaijan include Ana Maria Careaga, Director of the Instituto Espacio para la Memoria, and Director of the Institute for Human Rights Study at University of Atlantida (Argentina), Claudia Viviana Rocca lawyer and President of the Argentine Bar Association, Professor at the National University of Mothers of Plaza de Mayo and National University of Moreno (Argentina), Irene Victoria Massimino, lawyer and expert in human rights and international criminal law; former rapporteur of the High Criminal Court of Buenos Aires; Professor of law (USA), and Avi Singh, Senior Advocate and International Criminal lawyer "CFTJ calls on Azerbaijan to act immediately to grant access and ensure the safety of these monitors," the statement reads.
