ArmInfo. The ruling political force "Civil Contract" completely distorts the essence of the Charter on Strategic Partnership signed between Armenia and the United States, creating false expectations in the Armenian society, reads a statement of the former Ombudsman of Armenia, head of the Tatoyan Foundation Arman Tatoyan.
"Although I fully support the development of Armenian-American relations, today's research shows that the "Civil Contract" with its propaganda contributes to a distorted public and international perception of the events of January 14 and distorts the content of Armenian-American relations to the detriment of the interests of the Republic of Armenia," the human rights activist is sure.
According to him, accordingly, instead of real diplomacy, Armenian society receives a propaganda campaign of hostility and intolerance towards the official ally - Russia or any country in general, connected to it by historical, economic and other threads, as well as deepening tensions in relations.
Tatoyan drew attention to the fact that all this is happening in conditions when the "Civil Contract" during its period in power deepened economic ties with the Russian Federation and the EAEU, introducing specific mechanisms that work "on the ground" or strengthening existing ones.
"Under these conditions, such propaganda and the activities of the "Civil Contract" as a whole are organically contrary to the state interests of the Republic of Armenia. In order to prevent manipulations by the "Civil Contract", I specifically emphasize my fundamental conviction: for the sake of security and progress of Armenia, it is necessary to be guided by [real] democracy and the rule of law, the protection of human rights and national values," the former Ombudsman of Armenia emphasized.
At the same time, he noted that the main "mission" of the State Duma propaganda machine has become inciting hostility and intolerance, misleading people. Tatoyan believes that for the elite of the ruling force, such a style of work has become a guarantee of maintaining power and a disease that is destroying our society and the state.
The former Ombudsman of Armenia noted that such propaganda, characteristic of an authoritarian state, is dangerous both for stability within the country and for interstate relations.
"Relations with any state, especially one that has applied for a union, require maximum and real implementation of the interests of the Republic of Armenia in relations with this state. Each agreement or decision must be supported by specific mechanisms operating "on the ground". All this must be properly explained to the public," Tatoyan concluded.
