ArmInfo. The National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia has uncovered a case of smuggling drugs in especially large quantities from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
According to the NSS, employees of the Syunik regional department of the agency revealed that three citizens of the Republic of Armenia, together with a citizen of Iran, by prior agreement, planned to import an especially large batch of various drugs from the IRI to the republic for the purpose of smuggling.
In particular, on January 10 of this year, in the territory adjacent to the Meghri community, members of the criminal group seized from a pre-selected hiding place an especially large batch of drugs imported into Armenia through the Armenian-Iranian state border by an unidentified person, and were preparing to transport them to Yerevan.
As a result of the measures taken, the activities of the criminal group were suspended, citizens R.S., A.A. and K.S. were detained and taken to the Syunik Regional Department of the National Security Service.
As a result of a search in one of the cars belonging to the detained persons, 10 kg of drugs were found, of which 8 kg were and 2 kg were . Petitions were filed with the court to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention for R.S., A.A. and K.S., which were granted.
