ArmInfo. The issue of dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group (MG) should be considered in its entirety, rather than focusing on individual aspects. It is important to understand that it may either align with the interests of Armenia or go against them, as noted by Tsovinar Vardanyan, a member of the National Assembly of Armenia from the ruling Civil Contract faction, during a briefing in parliament on January 13.
When asked about the potential dissolution of the OSCE MG or withdrawal from the CSTO before signing a peace treaty, Vardanyan responded that it all hinges on whether it aligns with Armenia's interests. "We are guided by the national interests of our country," she emphasized. In response to the remark that the Prime Minister cannot dissolve the OSCE Minsk Group, which was created to resolve the Artsakh issue, Vardanyan noted that the main task of the head of government is to ensure the country's security. "Therefore, in serving the national interests of Armenia, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia acts within the scope of his powers. All my actions, as a representative of the Armenian government, are also aimed at protecting the interests of the country," Vardanyan said, avoiding a direct answer and suggesting to ask how effective the OSCE Minsk Group is today.
At the same time, the MP emphasized that the Armenian government is currently negotiating to complete the peace process and create conditions for stability in the region. "All our actions are aimed at achieving this goal," the MP continued. The MP also commented on Russia's recent statements that Armenia must choose between the EAEU and the EU. She noted that the country's residents (60 thousand out of over 3 million residents of the Republic - ed.) are actively participating in collecting signatures for joining the EU, thus exercising their right.
"Expectations should be set correctly; there is no need to go to extremes. This is simply a procedure initiated by our citizens (Western-oriented public and political figures - ed.)," Vardanyan explained. Touching upon Russia's statements regarding a potential negative impact on Armenia's economy and price increases, the MP pointed out that it is not her place to comment on the words of the co-chair of the Russian-Armenian intergovernmental commission Alexey Overchuk. "The EAEU is an economic cooperation platform that is utilized by all who cooperate with it," the MP concluded.
