ArmInfo.During a press conference on January 9 discussing the current situation in Armenia and the region, Garegin Chugaszyan, a member of the National Democratic Pole (NDP) Council, highlighted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's recent interview with local TV channels.
He emphasized that Aliev's statements contradict Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's claims about peace. "Azerbaijan is already openly issuing threats to Armenia and making ultimatums, such as demanding the return of weapons that Armenia has already acquired," Chugaszyan added, recalling that the RA Prime Minister today has been referring to Western Armenia as Maralik and Armavir.
According to Chugaszyan, it is important to consider the context in which Aliyev makes his statements. "The timing of these statements is crucial, especially given the upcoming change of power in the United States and recent events in the Middle East. Such words may have their reasons," he explained. The NDP Council member expressed his conviction that Aliyev is not addressing the Armenian people, but rather the geopolitical centers, seeking to demonstrate his demands to international players and assess the reaction of gloabal community. He also emphasized that Aliyev's intention to take military action has never been a surprise, and therefore it is pointless to speculate about such steps. "I do not think that his speech was addressed to the Armenian people. But even in this case, we must mobilize and unite," Chugaszyan noted. Touching upon the likelihood of an escalation of the conflict at this stage, he pointed out the existence of such a possibility. However, he added that Aliyev's statements do not confirm Azerbaijan's readiness for war.
"Our region holds great importance in the global context, and we must be mindful of this fact. We need to bring to power leaders who understand the scale of what is happening," the NDP member assured. At the same time, according to Chugaszyan, it is pointless to expect a reaction from international players to Aliyev's statements, especially considering that even the Prime Minister of Armenia did not respond to them properly. In this regard, he recalled how, at the time of the outbreak of hostilities by Azerbaijan, Pashinyan claimed that Artsakh was not in danger. "The situation is repeating itself, and it is also inappropriate to expect a reaction from other countries in this context," the politician continued.
Touching upon the steps needed to unite the Armenian people and liberate Armenia from Pashinyan's rule, Chugaszyan drew attention to the existing cracks within the regime of the Prime Minister of Armenia. "The power of these people is only superficial. If "shocking" events occur in the region, they are unlikely to remain in power for long," he said. In this regard, the member of the NDP emphasized the importance of uniting various forces against the backdrop of serious changes in the region. He assured that history knows many examples when, even in the most difficult conditions, countries were able to rise by realizing their enemies and their true faces.
