ArmInfo. Dmitry Peskov, the Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, has stated that Armenia's membership in both the EU and the EAEU is impossible. He made this comment during a briefing, in response to journalists question about the draft law on Armenia's accession to the European Union, which was adopted by the Armenian authorities today, as reported by TASS. He emphasized that assessing the significance of Armenia's potential membership in the EU is difficult, as the Armenian side's accents are still unknown. Speaking about the EAEU, Peskov noted that it has one customs area, one zone of free movement of goods and services, people and capital, while the EU has different norms.
At the same time, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation noted that the European Union launches the membership processes. Therefore, it is necessary to wait for their reaction to Armenia's initiative to join the union. "Here it is necessary to know the EU's position on this matter," he emphasized. In this regard, Peskov referred to Turkey's experience, which has been focused on EU membership for many years, but hasn't received much reciprocity from Brussels. He emphasized the importance of building on the working mechanisms and integration formats that have already proven themselves and continue to work for the benefit of the participating countries' peoples.
