ArmInfo. Armenia is committed to unblocking regional communication channels not because some country demands it, but because it is interested in doing so itself. This was stated by the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Ararat Mirzoyan on January 8 at a press conference on the results of 2024. He made this comment in response to a request to comment on the demand of the President of Azerbaijan to provide a corridor through the Syunik region of the Republic of Armenia.
According to him, not only will other countries use Armenia's territory for transit purposes, but Armenia will also utilize the territories of neighboring states. "As for this statement specifically, I want to emphasize that Armenia does not want, wish or intend to be an obstacle. We live in the 21st century, where everyone wants to have relations, trade and establish communications with other states, including us. This is in the vital interests of all states. And we want to be a connecting bridge between our neighbors, not an obstacle," he noted.
At the same time, the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry deemed both the term "Zangezur corridor" used by the Azerbaijani side and the concept that Baku is trying to promote as unacceptable. The minister noted that Armenia is not opposed to, but is actually interested in unblocking communications, but only under the conditions that the sovereignty and legislation of the countries through which these communications pass are respected.
It should be noted that the day before, the President of Azerbaijan issued an ultimatum demanding an extraterritorial corridor through the territory of Armenia. He emphasized that if Yerevan does not agree to this in a good way, then Baku will take it by force.
