As a result of enhanced service on December 23, employees of the eco-patrol service, water patrol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia and the Inspectorate for Nature Protection and Mineral Resources detained two suspects in the illegal fishing of about 45 kg of whitefish on Lake Sevan and the territory of the village of Noratus.
As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, the detainees were taken to the Chambarak police department. 168 fishing nets, 119 crayfish traps were removed from the lake, and 280 species of whitefish with a total weight of 83 kg were seized.
According to the source, due to the spawning period, whitefish hunting is prohibited until January 20. During this time, police officers, together with other interested bodies, will consistently continue preventive measures.
"We urge you to comply with the requirement to ban fishing during the whitefish spawning season in Lake Sevan and to act exclusively within the law," the Ministry of Internal Affairs warned
