ArmInfo. There is no direct or indirect mention of Nagorno- Karabakh in any article of the RA Constitution, as stated by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with the state news agency <Armenpress>, mentioning that the Constitution of Azerbaijan contains territorial demands on Armenia.
The day before, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev gave an interview to the Russian VGTRK TV channel and the RIA Novosti agency. During the interview, Aliyev, in particular, stated that one of the uncoordinated articles of the peace treaty involves the agreement for both parties to refrain from international lawsuits against each other. The other article concerns the non-deployment of representatives of other countries along the border. At the same time, Baku believes that in order to conclude a peace treaty, Armenia must amend its constitution, <because it contains a reference to the declaration of independence, that asserts territorial claims against Azerbaijan, declaring the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region as part of Armenia. Therefore, amending the constitution is not our whim, but an objective requirement>, Aliyev said.
Nikol Pashinyan once again noted that the allegations of Constitution of the Republic of Armenia containing territorial claims against Azerbaijan stem from the preamble of our Constitution referencing the Declaration of Independence, which again mentions Nagorno-Karabakh. Pashinyan noted that Yerevan, in turn, is concerned that the Constitution of Azerbaijan contains territorial claims against Armenia. He also mentioned that another provision of the agreed part of the peace treaty states that the parties recognize each other's territorial integrity, do not have territorial claims against each other and refrain from making such claims in the future. According to the head of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Armenia, there is no reason to reject signing a peace treaty due to concerns about the Constitution.
