ArmInfo. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has agreed to the idea of withdrawing the lawsuits filed by Yerevan against Baku in international courts. He also doesn't oppose the non-deployment of third-country forces on the border, but he has some reservations.
The day before, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev gave an interview to the Russian VGTRK TV channel and the RIA Novosti agency. Aliyev, in particular, stated that Yerevan and Baku had agreed on 15 out of 17 articles in the draft peace treaty. One of the articles that was not agreed upon involves both parties refraining from international lawsuits against each other. In Aliyev's opinion, . Another article concerns the non-deployment of representatives of other countries along the border. Aliyev said.
Pashinyan noted today in an interview with the state-run news agency. As the prime minister pointed out, there are two nuances here. One is that there should be a clear prospect for bilaterally resolving individual humanitarian issues that are currently under discussion at international courts. Secondly, it should be understood that after withdrawing disputes from international platforms regarding other issues, the parties should not continue to bring up the same issues in bilateral relations agenda, making them a permanent source of escalation.
As for the non-deployment of third-country forces on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, according to the head of the Armenian Cabinet, Yerevan proposes the article regarding the non-deployment of third-country forces to cover the delimited parts of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, and this is logical, because the risk of escalation significantly decreases if not minimizes through delimitation. Thus, once the delimitation is complete, there will be no need for the presence of a third force along any part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, and the Republic of Armenia is proposing this logic, he added.
