The 19th session of the Committee on the Second Protocol (1999) to the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the event of Armed Conflict was held at UNESCO headquarters. As reported by the press service of the Permanent Delegation of Armenia to UNESCO, the session's agenda included several important topics: the report of the Secretariat of the Second Protocol for the reporting period, voluntary reports on the implementation of the Convention and its two annexed protocols, and events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Hague Convention and the 25th anniversary of the Second Protocol of 1999.
Aram Hakobyan, the Permanent Delegate of Armenia to UNESCO, has presented reports on the Secretariat's activities during the reporting period and Armenia's efforts to facilitate granting of enhanced protection to the group of monuments: Tatev Monastery Complex, Great Tatev Desert and Vorotan River Gorge. He emphasized the importance of the assistance provided and mentioned the challenges of protecting the group of monuments located in Syunik, thanking the Secretariat for its cooperation. During the session, special attention was paid to the international legal consequences in case of violation of the inviolability of cultural heritage, as well as the efforts of several countries, including Armenia, within the framework of the international assistance mechanism. Additionally, applications for enhanced protection and the rules for the use of the logos of the Hague Convention were discussed at the session.
