ArmInfo. Member of the Armenian men's weightlifting team, vice-champion of the Olympic Games in Paris Varazdat Lalayan won the title of world champion.
As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MECS) of Armenia, the 25-year-old weightlifter showed a result of 467 kg (215 + 252 kg) in the biathlon at the World Championships held in Bahrain, winning a small gold medal in the snatch and a small bronze medal in the clean and jerk.
"In the snatch, Lalayan successfully completed all three approaches, holding barbells weighing 206, 211 and 215 kg over his head, taking first place. In the clean and jerk, the weightlifter showed a result of 252 kg and was awarded a small bronze medal," the MECS noted.
The Ministry also reported that two-time world vice-champion and three-time European vice-champion Gor Minasyan, representing Bahrain, won a small silver medal in the snatch with a result of 210 kg. "Minasyan showed a result of 455 kg (210 + 245) in the combined event and took 4th place, losing the bronze medal to Iranian Alireza Yousef with a difference of one kilogram," the Ministry of Education and Science summarized.
