ArmInfo. Current geopolitical and technological changes have allowed certain countries with weak legal systems to exert pressure on international norms. Yeghishe Kirakosyan, Armenia's representative on international legal issues, made this statement at the 5th Global Forum "Against the Crime of Genocide". Kirakosyan emphasized that the effectiveness of international law enforcement is influenced by differences between states, and the international legal system established after World War II is currently facing serious changes. "The system that was established after World War II is currently undergoing serious tectonic changes, with one of the reasons being the differences in societies," Yeghishe Kirakosyan explained.
The representative of Armenia on international legal issues pointed out that such changes create aggressive narratives, especially in conflict situations. According to him, the international law is currently facing serious challenges, which raises doubts about its universality. In this regard, Kirakosyan also mentioned that Armenia is experiencing issues of racial discrimination and incitement to hatred, amidst the weakening influence of international law. Additionally, he drew attention to the fact that authoritarian states often manipulate international law to further their own agendas. In conclusion, the representative of Armenia noted that this practice poses additional challenges to resolving conflicts peacefully. "Laws were originally created to allow countries to resolve their problems peacefully," he concluded.
