ArmInfo. During the organization of the regular Global Forum against the Crime of Genocide, there was never a shortage of topics discussed, which confirms the lack of effective efforts by the international community or its collective failure to prevent crimes against humanity and genocides. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan made this statement on December 12 during the 5th Global Forum against the Crime of Genocide held in Yerevan.
At the same time, he asked for his assessments to be perceived as a call to unite the will, knowledge and determination in the fight against genocide prevention. The Minister regretfully emphasized that the international community only turns its gaze and attention to genocide and other mass atrocities after the fact. In this regard, Mirzoyan mentioned not only the Armenian Genocide of 1915, but also the tragic events of last year, when the citizens of Artsakh were forcibly displaced as a result of Azerbaijani aggression. "In our region, we have witnessed this not only 110 years ago during the Armenian Genocide, but also last year, when it seemed that the world was aware of numerous risk factors that could have led to irreversible consequences. Unfortunately, we were unable to prevent them and now we are witnessing these irreversible consequences," the Foreign Minister said, noting that this is one of those examples when the reaction of the international community is disproportionate to the risk factors and the current situation.
According to Mirzoyan, the current realities should compel the world to seek more effective ways to save people's lives. The heavy bureaucratic machine should become more sensitive and flexible, not only in terms of an efficient response, but also in demonstrating equal treatment to everyone. He emphasized that the protection of national, racial, and ethnic groups should remain the central focus of the international system for protecting rights. The key to success lies close international cooperation among UN structures, member countries, public organizations, and so forth.
