ArmInfo. Financing the activities of the Collective Security Treaty Organization is an integral part for its participants. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian MFA, made this statement at a briefing on December 11, commenting on the issue of the Armenian side refusing to pay contributions to the CSTO.
According to the diplomat, the CSTO budget is formed by contributions from member countries. In 2003, the Organization's countries approved the distribution of these contributions. Russia finances half of the budget, while other CSTO countries contribute 10%. If a country fails to fulfill its obligations to repay the debt decisions may be made regarding the debtor, including the possibility of deprivation of voting rights. Similar measures are in place in UN structures. "Whether Armenia will pay its debt or not is a question for Yerevan. Regarding the rumors about Armenia's intentions to leave the CSTO, we have no information on that matter. The Organization has not received any relevant documents from Yerevan.
