ArmInfo. "I have no illusions that the signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan will lead to stability and long-term peace in the region," former Foreign Minister of Armenia Ara Ayvazyan told journalists on December 11. He noted that the other side places little to no importance to the interests of Armenia and the Armenian people in the context of "peace." In this regard, the former Foreign Minister also pointed out that Baky is attempting to delay the conclusion of a peace treaty, by introducing new elements into the negotiations agenda at every opportunity. "95% of the text may be agreed upon, but you have probably heard of a rule in diplomacy: if everything is not agreed upon, then nothing is agreed upon," Ayvazyan explained.
Touching upon Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statements about his readiness to sign a peace agreement at any time, the former Foreign Minister noted that, in terms of both objective and subjective factors, foreign policy, is a logical continuation of domestic policy. It is determined by external processes and circumstances under the current government. "Correct diplomacy should be based on the domestic agenda, of course, taking into account the geopolitical situation and various circumstances. However, first and foremost, it should promote national interests," Ayvazyan emphasized. At the same time, he expressed the opinion that the country's diplomacy during his tenure operated with the highest level of autonomy.
