ArmInfo. Political scientist and co-founder of the group Vahe Hovhannisyan believes that after the war, Armenia lacks the capacity to engage in Armenian-Azerbaijani-Turkish negotiations without a mediator and withstand their demands.
In his opinion, it is currently very challenging to make any public judgments about the Armenian- Azerbaijani negotiations, as they are being conducted in a strictly closed regime. he pointed out. According to him, while the public and political elites remain indifferent to what is happening around them, in particular, the events in Syria, which are links in the same chain, in Armenia only 1-2 people determine the fate and future of the country. "We have all witnessed the consequences of allowing a select few to decide the fate of an entire nation over the past 5-6 years," the expert said.
Meanwhile, the negotiation process switched to a "closed" format immediately after the removal of the mediators, according to the political scientist. After the war, the Republic of Armenia lacks the resources to engage in Armenian-Azerbaijani-Turkish negotiations without a mediator and withstand their demands, he emphasized.
"Official Yerevan has emphasized several times that we do not need mediators. In my opinion, Yerevan is fulfilling Azerbaijan's direct demand, and Azerbaijan, with its eastern dexterity, has good relations with both Russia and the West. However, all dangerous and controversial ideas are voiced by official Yerevan," Hovhannisyan said. He also pointed out that negotiations without a mediator are not in Armenia's interests, as both Azerbaijan and Turkey could easily break any agreement at any time.
