ArmInfo. Gegharkunik Governor Karen Sargsyan met with Olga Weigel, head of the German International Cooperation Agency, to discuss the implementation of a new program aimed at managing water resources and wastewater in the region.
As the governor explained on his Facebook page, the initiative will be a logical continuation of the EU-4 Sevan program and has significant economic and environmental significance. According to him, it will cover not only the catchment area of Lake Sevan, but also the adjacent territories and objects under its influence.
"Currently, together with state bodies, local government and other interested parties, we are conducting expert and research work to complete the draft program, which will most likely be put into effect at the end of 2025," the governor noted.
During the meeting, Karen Sargsyan also provided detailed answers to experts' questions regarding the management of water resources of Lake Sevan and its catchment area, the impact of global warming on the environment, as well as the directions of implementation of state programs in the environmental sphere.
The meeting was also attended by technical engineer Christian Sterz, expert Frank Samol, head of the EU-4 Sevan program Alexander Arakelyan, program advisor Edgar Pirumyan and regional coordinator of the Gegharkunik region Varazdat Sargsyan.
