ArmInfo. Head of the Yerevan Office of the Council of Europe Maxime Longangue, at a meeting with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia Arpine Sargsyan, expressed confidence that the existing cooperation between the two structures will be strengthened and expanded.
As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, he said that the Council of Europe has approved the continuous funding of projects implemented with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and considers this a priority.
Touching upon the support of the Council of Europe in the framework of projects implemented jointly with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Longange highly appreciated the exceptional cooperation in the direction of the Police Guard and expressed readiness to continue cooperation in the process of forming the unit, developing the sub-legislative sphere and training officers, emphasizing the joint achievements recorded in the legislative sphere.
Having expressed high appreciation for the bilateral cooperation, Sargsyan thanked for the support. In the issue of the formation of the Police Guard, the Minister of Internal Affairs emphasized not only the importance of improving the legislative framework, but also its consistent and effective application.
Touching upon the new standard of the use of force in Armenia, Sargsyan emphasized the effectiveness of the mechanisms for recording torture and other manifestations of ill-treatment, as well as the effectiveness of joint training of the Police, the Investigative Committee and the ambulance.
The head of the Yerevan office of the Council of Europe also touched upon the achievements recorded by the ECHR and the Committee for the Prevention of Torture in the sphere of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The parties also discussed issues of cooperation in the field of migration and citizenship, prevention of domestic and gender-based violence, protection of the rights of forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno- Karabakh, and the implementation of decisions of the European Court of Human Rights.
