ArmInfo. Armenia is pursuing an ambitious program of cooperation with Finland and the EU. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan made this statement in an interview with the Finnish news agency Lannen Media. He also emphasized that Armenia shares the values of democracy with countries like Finland. "You are aware of our policy, which aims to bring Armenia closer to the European Union. In his speech at the European Parliament, the Prime Minister of Armenia stated that the Republic is ready to become as close to the European Union as the EU deems possible," he noted.
According to him, Armenia is currently pursuing a policy focused on enhancing its relations with the EU. Mirzoyan emphasized that negotiations are currently underway on a comprehensive document named the "New Partnership Program" that will encompass a range of cooperation areas. "A high-level trilateral meeting was held in April with the participation of Armenia, the EU and the US. The main goal of the meeting was to strengthen Armenia's resilience, especially economically, as the country faces many threats from various directions, including hybrid threats, I would say," the diplomat said.
He then touched upon democratic reforms in the country and assured that Armenian authorities are actively seeking ways to strengthen ties with other democracies to build a democratic society. "It is quite natural that we are looking towards the European Union, which is home to developed democracies," he added, while emphasizing that the democratic changes happening in Armenia are irreversible. "Regardless of which government comes to power through free democratic elections, democratic values are the cornerstone of our society," the Armenian Foreign Minister said.
