ArmInfo. Yerevan, December 6. ArmInfo, Aline Grigoryan. The demands made by the Baku dictator to Armenia during the conference with the loud title "Right of Return" and presented by the propaganda machine of the barbaric regime as "international" are as unfounded and artificial as the name "Azerbaijan" previously assigned by its leadership. Iranologist Vardan Voskanyan stated this on his Facebook account.
The expert emphasized that neither the historical, nor the geographical, nor the administrative, nor the cultural concept with the fictitious name "Western Azerbaijan" has ever existed on the territory of the Republic of Armenia. Consequently, there can be no "Western Azerbaijanis" or any legitimate communities, structures or organizations representing their interests.
"The impudence of the barbaric leader of Baku has reached such a degree that he dares to make demands on an ancient civilization and state like Armenia," Voskanyan emphasized.
In this vein, he noted that a real vision of a secure and developing Armenia should not be based on satisfying Azerbaijan's demands, but at least on attempts to silence it.
In his address to the conference participants, Aliyev once again demanded that Yerevan return the Azerbaijanis to Armenia, which he described as nothing less than "Western Azerbaijan." He not only appropriated the Persian "Blue Mosque," but also declared the right of the Azerbaijanis "to their historical lands." "The Azerbaijani people have also faced the problem of displacement since the beginning of the last century. The Azerbaijanis living in Western Azerbaijan - on the territory of today's Armenia - were subjected to ethnic cleansing and were gradually forcibly expelled from their historical homeland. Armenia is trying in every way to deny the fact that the Azerbaijani people have lived for centuries and created a rich cultural heritage in the land of their ancestors.
Unfortunately, the deep-rooted hatred towards our people in Armenian society, the dream of a mythical "Greater Armenia", the territorial claims against Azerbaijan still preserved in the Armenian constitution and the rapid armament of this country hinder the achievement of lasting peace between the two countries. Armenia is deliberately trying to present the activities of the West Azerbaijan Community as a threat to its territorial integrity. However, the goal of the Community is to ensure the dignified return of our compatriots expelled from West Azerbaijan to their ancestral lands in peace and security. This is purely a matter of human rights. Armenia's presentation of the Community's activities as a threat is an attempt to distort the true essence of the issue and deny the right of return based on international law. The West Azerbaijan Community has repeatedly called on the Armenian government to engage in dialogue, but the opposite side has refused. Armenia must begin negotiations with the Community and take practical steps to restore the fundamental rights of West Azerbaijanis," Aliyev said.
