ArmInfo. On December 3, Armenia's Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan went to Aragatsotn to meet with representatives of the Yazidi community, and this in conditions when it was already known from early morning that bus drivers, dissatisfied with their working conditions, were holding a strike in Yerevan.
As reported by the office of the Ombudsman of Armenia, as part of the visit, Manasyan went to the communities of Arevut, Kanch and Ako, where she registered problems related to the lack of medical centers, pharmacies, retail outlets and transportation.
At the meeting with the human rights defender, representatives of the Yazidi community said that there is no secondary school in their communities, as a result of which children have problems continuing their education in the future. "The conditions in the buildings of educational institutions are in poor condition: there is no central heating system, the equipment in the classrooms is of poor quality, the gyms are not usable at all," the statement says.
According to the source, the visit was organized by the representative of the Yazidi community in the parliament, acting chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Human Rights and Public Affairs Rustam Bakoyan. The Yazidi community was also visited by UNICEF Representative in Armenia Christine Weigand.
This morning, December 3, the drivers of Yerevan Bus CJSC refused to go on routes, demanding better working conditions. For this reason, thousands of Yerevan residents found themselves in a difficult situation in the morning, forced to stand for hours at bus stops waiting for the rare buses that did not join the strike. The situation was aggravated by the fact that, against the backdrop of the lack of transport, taxi prices also soared. And instead of going to the bus depot and talking to the drivers, including for the proper protection of their rights, Manasyan preferred to go to Aragatsotn.
