On December 2, Catholic of All Armenians Garegin II received Vincze Krisztian, Vice-Rector of Pazmany Peter Catholic University of Hungary and the delegation led by him, as reported by the Chancellery of the Mother See of Etchmiadzin. Edgar Hovhannisyan, the Dean of the Faculty of History and Social Sciences at the Armenian State Pedagogical University named after Khachatur Abovyan, was also present at the meeting. He told the Patriarch about the current cooperation between ASPU and the Catholic University, highlighting the successful activities of the Department of Armenian Studies at the Hungarian University.
The Catholicos of All Armenians conveyed his blessing and gratitude to the guests for their close cooperation with educational institutions in Armenia and the work carried out to popularize Armenian studies at the Pazmany Peter Catholic University. In response, Vincze Krisztian presented His Holiness with the framework of the university's activities, thanking him for his support in enhancing cooperation between ASPU and the Catholic University. The vice-rector also announced that Hungarian studies will be opened at the Faculty of History and Social Studies of the Pedagogical University in the near future.
During the conversation, Garegin II discussed the current situation in Armenia, external challenges and Azerbaijan's ambitions regarding the sovereign territories of Armenia. His Holiness also recalled December 2021, when, with the mediation of Hungarian authorities and the Catholic Church, five prisoners of war held in Azerbaijan were able to return to their homeland. Concern was expressed over the cases of destruction and appropriation of the cultural and spiritual heritage of Artsakh. The need for active support from the international community to prevent such policies by Azerbaijan and to secure the release of all prisoners of war held there was emphasized.
