ArmInfo. At a meeting with representatives of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Human Rights Defender of Armenia Anahit Manasyan discussed the planned changes in legislation in the field of equality, prevention of domestic violence, gender violence, and also pointed out the need for Yerevan to ratify the Istanbul Convention.
As reported by the press service of the Ombudsman, during the meeting Manasyan touched upon the issue of the participation of women living in the regions in public life processes, as well as the steps taken in Armenia to protect and promote their rights. In this regard, she emphasized the importance of overcoming various stereotypes and the need to carry out serious work to reform the education system.
As the Ombudsman explained, it is through the education system that stereotypical behavior is very often transmitted, which does not correspond to modern trends regarding human rights. The parties also discussed various issues related to the protection of children's rights, in particular, violence against children, their right to be heard and to freely express their opinions.
