ArmInfo. On the final day of his visit to Armenia, Polish President Andrzej Duda participated in a patrol in Paruyr-Sevak and met with the Polish representatives of the European Union Mission to Armenia (EUMA), which was established as part of the Common Security and Defense Policy.
As stated on the website of the Polish President, Duda familiarized himself with the situation in the border areas and the tasks carried out by the headquarters during his visit to the observation post near the so-called border triangle: Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey. He noted that negotiations are underway on Poland's broader participation in this project by increasing the number of Polish representatives. Currently, a team of eight Polish experts is in Armenia, with diplomat Marek Kuberski serving as the deputy head of the mission.
During the visit, Duda also spoke with EUMA Director Markus Ritter, who leads a group of experts from various countries. The mission was established in February 2023 for a two-year period, and its tasks include monitoring the situation and patrolling the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Andrzej Duda emphasized that presence of EU experts is "to achieve agreement between the parties in the conflict while observing the situation in the conflict and border zone."
"This is not an easy task, as the mission covers a thousand kilometers along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border," he emphasized. He noted that these actions are bringing success in the form of "calming the situation." "In many places where we were dealing with constant shelling, especially targeting infrastructure, the shelling has stopped as a result of the constant presence of EU representatives," the Polish President said.
