Putin: CSTO should not have intervened in Karabakh conflict, as there  was no external aggression against Armenia

ArmInfo.The CSTO should not have intervened in the conflict in Karabakh to defend Yerevan, as  there was no external aggression against Armenia. Russian President Vladimir Putin made this remark while answering journalists' questions in Astana.

<The CSTO has nothing to do with it, everything that occurred is  unrelated to the CSTO, because there was no external aggression  against Armenia itself. The CSTO's purpose is to protect member  countries from external aggression. The events concerning Karabakh  have their own specifics, as Armenia did not recognize Karabakh as an  independent state and certainly did not include it in its territory.  This means that the events  in Karabakh has no direct relation to  Armenia from a legal point of view. So, it is odd to suggest that the  CSTO should intervene in this enclave, "the Russian President stated.  At the same time, he acknowledged that this is a very sensitive  issue. "It may be simple to make assessments from an external  perspective, but the internal complexities are always more  intricate," said Vladimir Putin.
